Chicago Developer to Bring Three Story Storage Facility to Chicago’s Lower West Side

John S. Mengel and JSM Venture, Inc. have partnered with Uncle Bob’s Self Storage to open a new Uncle Bob’s storage facility at 1625 S Ashland Ave., Chicago, IL on April 1st.

This project marks the reclamation of the former Otis Elevator building, which has been vacant since 2009. The building was originally built in 1926, and spans the entire block between 16th and 17th Streets in Chicago’s vibrant Pilsen neighborhood.

“This is a comprehensive rehab of a historic Chicago structure and we are thrilled to be part of the evolution of this neighborhood,” Mengel said. The facility will feature three stories of self storage, with a total of 726 heated and air conditioned storage units in various sizes.

During the renovation, JSM Venture poured new concrete floors, installed all new HVAC

and lighting. They also added a new service elevator while also replacing all the exterior windows and doors. At the north and south ends of the facility, interior loading areas are secured by large roll-up doors with keypad access. Customers will find easy drive in access to a ground level loading area for passenger vehicles and a loading dock for commercial vehicles.

The three story facility will occupy one full city block just south of Addams Park, and serves University Village, Little Italy, and the Near West Side.

The new facility is part of Uncle Bob’s continued expansion into the Chicago area, as it is their 12th facility added in the past two years.

“The great people of Chicago have treated us well and we’re pleased to be able to serve them in this growing area,” said Matt Moore, area manager of Uncle Bob’s Chicago storage facilities.

The facility will open to the public on April 1st, and customers can reserve a space online now at: UncleBobs.com/Chicago-IL-storage/storage-unit-prices-UB832.cfm.
