The Georgia Self Storage Association (GASSA) held its inaugural trade show and conference—GASSA 2014 EXPO—on October 22 & 23 at the Hilton Atlanta/Marietta Hotel and Conference Center in Marietta, Georgia. Heath Mulkey, GASSA President, called the EXPO an overall success with 17 sponsors and exhibitors and 96 attendees over the two-day event and stated that it was an excellent opportunity for Georgia self storage owners to stay abreast of trends in the self storage industry by seeing the latest products and services, attending educational workshops as well as networking with their fellow storage owners. A high point was the awarding of the inaugural Burt Gay Award for the GASSA Outstanding Member of the Year to Scott Zucker the GASSA legal counsel and workshop presenter at the EXPO. A golf tournament kicked things off on the morning of the first day and was followed by the two-day trade show and conference. At the end of each day, drawings were held for raffle prize donated by the sponsors and exhibitors – lucky winners took home prizes

totaling over $1800 in value –including the grand prize of an Apple iPad. More importantly, attendees had the opportunity to take home newly acquired knowledge of the self storage industry and new friendships. The Hat Lady, Anne Ballard, conducted a workshop early on the second day titled: “Good Morning Georgia – 12 Favorite Reports for Higher Income, Fewer Discounts.” Bob Francis’ workshop was titled “Bring Home the Bacon”, which stressed the importance of an aggressive rate campaign.
