While people all over the country hold garage sales this spring, residents of Northwest Indiana have the opportunity to come together at a regional garage sale event to support local families impacted by childhood cancer. Champion Self Storage will host its annual garage and vendor sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 1104 W. U.S. 30. All proceeds from the event will go to the Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids Foundation. The NICK Foundation provides hope and assistance to families in local and surrounding areas affected by pediatric cancer. “In my heart, this is a way to give back. When I heard about the kids I had to find a way to help,” said Roxann Crowder, Champion Self Storage manager. “The company is big on doing fundraisers for organizations in need. I feel like this is a win-win situation for the families of the foundation, local businesses and our customers.” The garage and vendor sale is open to the public. Admission is a donation of $1.50. Participants in the event will keep all profits made from the sale of their goods. “This event is very important to us, any form of help means a lot to our families,” NICK Foundation co-founder Donna Criner said. The well-known Chick-fil-A cow mascot will be in attendance from 11 a.m. to noon. “We hope hundreds of people will come out and support this great event for NICK and have their picture taken with the Cow! It’ll be a fun day,” Chick-fil-A community relations director Carolyn Shaw said. Crowder said there will be a raffle and many local businesses have donated gift cards, prizes and resources as prizes. Local eateries will be contributing goods and services for a food court. Visit nwicancerkids.org or call Crowder at (219) 322-7236 for more information.]]>
