Texas Self Storage Association (TSSA) to Recommend Charity Storage Giving Back Program to Members
SAN CLEMENTE, CA, June 10, 2019 – At their recent Board Meeting, the Texas Self Storage Association (TSSA) agreed to support the Charity Storage fundraising efforts in Texas. This partnership will encourage more Texas Owners and Operators to participate in the Charity Storage Giving Back Program to raise funds for local charities, including the Shriners Hospitals for Children — Galveston. TSSA chose the Shriners Hospitals for Children as the beneficiary of their fundraising efforts for the past 18 years, raising a total of $1.4 million dollars. The reason becomes clear during a tour of the hospital and the results are evident in the care provided at the hospital. Their slogan, “Love to the Rescue”, is very much in evidence. Money is raised through events at the Annual Big Ideas in Storage conference via a charity poker tournament, auctions, raffles and direct donations. Charity Storage will be another way for the Texas self storage industry to engage with their communities and give back!
TSSA is largest state self storage organization in the country. It has been providing a wide range of benefits to owners and operators in Texas for 30 years. TSSA was founded in 1986 to provide self storage owners opportunities to learn, share and improve both their own businesses and the self storage industry as a whole.
It is this commitment to its mission that encourages the continued growth and prosperity of the Association—and TSSA has witnessed extraordinary growth. Currently under the dynamic leadership of the Board of Directors and Executive Director Ginny Sutton, TSSA is a thriving association with a full-time professional staff of seven. The Association hosts a number of first-rate educational opportunities throughout the year, and its annual convention with trade show, held each year in the fall, is one of the best in the business. Today, the TSSA membership ranks have swelled to more than 3,900 facilities throughout Texas, and in surrounding states. As the Association grows, it continues to provide individualized service, education and fellowship with the same dedication and determination that sparked the founders in 1986.
About Charity Storage
Charity Storage is the Official Charity Partner of the Self Storage Association, and the first national self storage industry charity. It is also a Charity Partner of the ISS World Expo, Storelocal and the NVSSA, as well as an Affiliate Member of the AZSA and the CSSA. In addition, TSSA has recently agreed to recommend the program to their members. Charity Storage enables self storage facilities to utilize existing resources to raise funds for charities throughout the United States. 90% of auction funds are distributed to qualifying organizations.
The Charity Storage Giving Back Program is an opportunity for the self storage industry to raise funds for charities throughout the United States. Owners and managers designate a unit as their Charity Storage Unit, collect abandoned and donated items into the unit, and auction it off for charity. A Charitable Donation Receipt is provided for all donations.
Enrolled facilities sell the contents of their Charity Storage Unit in a live or online auction, with the proceeds distributed to the Charity Chosen by the Facility (60%), Kure It Cancer Research (20%) and the Self Storage Association Foundation Scholarship Program (10%). There are over 230 prescreened charities available on the website, and more may be added if they meet the stated criteria. Charity Storage retains 10% to help cover administrative costs and is able to accomplish this through donations made through our Sponsorship Program by storage industry operators and vendors.
