More than 60 firefighters responded to the scene of a fire at Valley Self Storage in Kent, Washington on early Thursday evening around 5:10pm. According to the Puget Sound Fire Department, one person was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The crew battled the blaze, which was called in as a 2-alarm fire but upgrade to a 3-alarm fire upon arrival, for over an hour.
Puget Sound Fire Division Chief Pat Pawlak said when the crew arrived, they discovered heavy smoke coming from a storage unit. To limit the horizontal spread of the fire, Pawlak said the crew strip cut the roof, giving the flames nowhere to go.
Fire officials estimate roughly 30 storage units were impacted by the fire and/or the crew while trying to get the fire under control. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
