Ex-Funeral Home Director Arrested For Keeping Corpses In Storage

Here's one of the grislier stories you're likely to read this week.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Department in Greenville, Mississippi received an anonymous call earlier this week – they speculate the tipster may have been a self-storage burglar – that a unit at iStorage at 2000 Reed Road contained a casket.

Police were sent to investigate and discovered three corpses within the unit that was being rented by 31-year-old Albert “Al” Creath, the former owner/funeral home director of Creath Memorial Services in Greenville. Two of the bodies were in a casket and a third was not.

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons released a Wednesday evening statement via Facebook stating that the discovery of the remains in the city is “deeply disturbing and raises serious concerns that demand a thorough investigation.”

“Greenville is a community that values dignity, respect, and the rule of law. We will not tolerate any actions that violate those principles,” Simmons wrote in the post.

The investigation led to the arrest of Creath, who was charged with improper desecration of corpses. Deputies learned that Creath was using the storage unit as a funeral home and still charging people for services.

“As more details emerge, we will continue to keep the public informed. In the meantime, I ask for patience and cooperation as we allow investigators to do their work. My administration remains committed to transparency, public safety, and ensuring that justice is served,” Simmons wrote.
