Injury and $15K in damage reported during texas Self-storage fire

One person sustained burns and more than $15K of property damage occurred during a fire at an Amarillo, Texas self-storage facility last week, according to police reports.

 

On Jan. 9, the Amarillo Fire Department responded to a morning fire at an unnamed self-storage facility located on 1301 South Lincoln Street. According to AFD officials, crews observed heavy smoke and flames coming from three adjacent storage units, constructed from semi-trailers.

Officials noted that a total of six vehicles and 18 personnel were dispatched to the scene to battle the fire, while also battling the snow storm. Ladder 27 initiated an aggressive exterior fire attack, while Engine 4 and Truck 5 established a water supply and assisted with suppression efforts. Officials stated that Engine 7 supported overhaul operations to ensure no further fire spread.

 
AFD officials also stated that the fire was brought under control within approximately 26 minutes of arrival, preventing damage to adjacent units beyond the three units involved.

 

The injured individual who sustained burns was first treated on the scene by Amarillo Medical Response before heading to the hospital. Officials noted the estimated financial loss included $15,000 in property damage, with no reported content losses.

 

The AFD Fire Marshal’s Office was notified and is investigating the fire’s cause and origin, which remains undetermined at this time, said officials.
