Movables Portable Storage Launches In Canada
Movables has moved into Canada! The portable storage company, which provides deluxe container boxes to residents and businesses alike, celebrated its grand opening today at 120 Federal Road in Welland, Ontario. The company will be storing as many as 300 containers outside its facility, while others can be placed on renters' residential or business properties.
Movables owner Anthony Continelli, who also owns Abbot Self Storage, a traditional, 400-unit self-storage facility in St. Catharines, Ontario, says he created Movables to meet the demand of a growing population facing a shortage of homes.
Movables containers, which are manufactured to the company’s specifications with final assembly taking place on site, measure 7.5 feet wide by 16 feet long, and each can accommodate up to 10,000 pounds of stored items.
“The beauty about Movables is a lot of time when people store things in a self-storage facility, they need to rent a truck,” explains Continelli. “They need to have friends or hire neighbors to help load the truck, move the goods from the truck into a storage container. Then, when they’re done, they basically have to unload it, rent a truck, and return the goods back.”
Continelli says that with Movables, a container can be delivered directly to a home or business, eliminating the cost and time associated with renting a truck, unloading, and so on. "You can load it at your convenience and, if you choose, keep the container there. If not, we’ll pick it up and take it away and we can actually deliver it to another location if you were moving."
For anyone concerned about items being disturbed or damaged during moves, the company has that covered too; a specially equipped truck lifts them vertically into the air to eliminate any movement of items during transport.
A limited number of containers will be available inside a climate-controlled portion of the Welland facility, however even when stored outside the containers do offer protection from Mother Nature.
“Traditionally, boxes are not insulated so when the climate changes to winter, you do have moisture that builds up and drips on the contents in the interior of the boxes," acknowledges Continelli, but says Movables containers are different. "[They are] specially designed and built... we have a thermal break on the exterior walls and a thermal break on the ceiling so that it minimizes any condensation on the wall.”
Movables is staffed during regular business hours, 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., however the facility is equipped with 50 high-definition security cameras and access is only granted through a personalized key-entry code system that is monitored 24 hours a day.
The grand opening celebration offered customers an introductory daily rental rate of $1, although the normal monthly rental is $190, with insurance coverage available for an additional $9 per every $5,000 worth of contents.
