Hair today, gone tomorrow. Police in Smyrna, Georgia are investigating the self storage theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of hair extensions from a Space Shop facility.
Ricola Elizabeth, who sells luxury hair extensions online and at her two physical locations, Perfect Distraction Hair Gallery, discovered the extensions were missing this past Sunday upon entering her self storage unit. Rows upon rows of clear plastic bins that she used to contain the extension were empty, along with tools used to apply the hair. Elizabeth estimated the missing inventory is worth about $300K.
“It’s not easy but I just have to keep pushing through,” she told ANF News in Atlanta. She says that she initially didn’t think anything was wrong as there were no physical signs of a break-in. However, when police arrived they discovered that the wired ceiling had been cut though to give the theives access to the unit.
“I think somebody may have seen us because I don’t share with anybody where this is located,” Elizabeth said. “I don’t use this address on anything.”
Elizabeth says she chose Space Shop Self Storage for its security; her unit is not only climate-controlled, but the facility is gated, and the entrance to the building is also keypad-accessible. “Based on the information we have gathered thus far, we believe this to be an isolated incident specifically targeting Ms. Elizabeth’s storage unit,” a Space Shop representative wrote in an email to ANF. “We condemn any form of theft or unauthorized access and are committed to supporting Ms. Elizabeth during this unfortunate event.”
The incident was captured on Space Shop’s cameras, and Elizabeth is hoping those responsible are caught – although she doubts she’ll recover the pieces and her insurance won’t cover much of the loss. “I don’t wish this on anyone,” she says.
