It's been a good month for the apprehension of self-storage thieves thanks to the efforts of police and self-storage surveillance systems (last week, Compass Self Storage in Cobb County, Georgia helped police nab a guitar thief).
After reviewing surveillance video, detectives identified Ford as a suspect and warrants for his arrest were obtained. On March 8, deputies executed a search warrant, recovering about $10,000 worth of stolen property at Ford’s home. He was also in possession of a firearm.
“Operations of this type are multi-agency collaborative endeavors conducted to serve and protect the citizens of Burke County,” the Sheriff's Office said in a release. “These types of operations could not be conducted without our partnerships and collaborations with local agencies/municipalities, like Morganton Department of Public Safety, working seamlessly together for the mutual good of our communities. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is thankful for our working relationships with MDPS and appreciates the ongoing partnerships with them and other agencies.”
Ford is a felon with previous convictions of felony breaking and entering, obtaining property by false pretenses/cheats/services, receiving a stolen vehicle, larceny of a motor vehicle, and several misdemeanor charges, according to records from the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction.
