Jim Davies, principal at Talonvest Capital, Inc., has passed away suddenly following a short battle with cancer. Davies was at Talonvest for nearly 14 years, yet he had a 35-year track record with experience as a direct lender, advisor, and property acquisitions specialist and was a co-founding principal of Buchanan Storage Capital which became one of the most recognized brands in the self storage finance sector. During his time at Talonvest, Buchanan Storage Capital, and Belgravia Capital, Davies closed over $6 billion in financing. Davies was also the founder of the popular Self Storage Owners Summit held in Newport Beach each July for the past 14 years. He graduated from UCLA in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics, and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

“All of us are struggling to digest the loss of someone so recently involved, so engaged with such a remarkably broad  scope of friends and peers,” said Self Storage Association president and CEO Tim Dietz. “Jim’s mark has been indelible, having created a unique niche with his partners Tom Sherlock and Eric Snyder; companies that launched hundreds of other businesses for their clients. Mostly Jim brought expertise, energy and fun to our industry. He will be missed terribly”

“We lost a great man this week,” wrote Dean L. Keller, a prominent self-storage broker in California who worked with Davies on both professional and charitable projects, including the Band of Brothers/Wheelchair Mission. “He was fun, passionate, insightful, and hard-working… he was so often seen as a leader in the self-storage industry and giving back to the community.”

All of us at MSM would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to Davies’ family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time.
